We hope we'll never have to see it again

When we bought MAKAAN, she came with a 6 person Switlik life raft that had not been recertified since 2013. As there was no dealer in the Chicagoland area who could service the raft, we decided to get it done during our trip down the East Coast.

It so happened that friends of ours, Courtney and Jason, arranged a get-together with other friends of theirs who live near Portland, ME. We had a fabulous time with Brad and Stephanie who graciously invited us into their house, showed us the beautiful area they call their home, and even entrusted us with their car so we could explore the surroundings when they had prior engagements. Thank you again so much!!!

The icing on the cake was that there was a marine store in downtown Portland where they could service our life raft, about 40 minutes away from Brad and Steph’s home.

When we got there, John, the technician, offered to inflate the raft while we were still there. How cool is that!!! We weren’t even sure if it would inflate or if they would still service it at all, considering the liferaft was already 20 years old. Needless to say, it was fantastic to see the inflated raft, all the parts that were included and to get a demonstration on how to use them in an emergency. And we were thoroughly impressed in what great condition the raft was still in.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7JeyaT4Sjftg94797

We just hope that this was the first and last time we will ever see our life raft outside of its case.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7JeyaT4Sjftg94797
