The Crew

Hans & Heike
Over two decades ago, we fell in love with sailing, sparking a lifelong passion that has driven us to continuously hone our skills. This journey eventually led us to fulfill our dream of living full-time aboard our boat, MAKAAN. Together, we keep our floating home safe by carefully monitoring the weather, studying charts, and navigating MAKAAN confidently to new and exciting destinations. Hans’ expertise in mechanics, electrical work, and plumbing proves invaluable, especially when sailing in remote areas where self-reliance is essential. Time and again, his inventive solutions have helped us overcome challenges at sea. Meanwhile, Heike ensures our lives are never dull, expertly planning destinations, shore excursions, and activities, while always keeping our fridge and pantry well-stocked. We complement each other perfectly and eagerly look forward to many more years of incredible adventures together.
The BOAT

SV MAKAAN
Our boat is a 1982 Hallberg-Rassy 42E (build no 35, designed by Olle Enderlein) ,a legendary Swedish bluewater cruising sailboat built between 1980 and 1991, with 255 units produced. It is famous for its secure center cockpit, flush deck, and exceptional offshore handling, making it a popular choice for round-the-world voyages. The boat’s performance is moderate and steady rather than fast, optimized for comfortable, safe long-distance passages over raw speed and she tracks exceptionally well in rough offshore conditions
