It’s a kaleidoscope of colours and the air is filled with the rhythmic sounds of cowbells, goat skin drums and whistles.<\/p>
We also strolled through Spanish Wells, Gregory Town and Governor’s Harbor and sampled the local mackerel and grits, conch fritters (made of pieces of a large sea snail mixed with a batter of flour and eggs and fried in oil) as well as various pastries. Every time we happen to see a grocery store we go in to see what is available. Buying groceries is a little bit of a challenge if you don’t want to spend a fortune. You start wondering if you really need to have a tomato salad when a pound of tomatoes costs $5.50! So a coconut fresh from the tree was a welcome treat and quite the entertainment for the crew as it was difficult to open it without proper tools.<\/p>
Way too fast was it time to drop Kai off at Rock Sound airport, an especially emotional moment for me. It will probably take some time until I will see him again.<\/p>
As there was a laundromat in Rock Sound, we stripped our beds, gathered all of our dirty laundry and hauled it through half of the town only to find out that the owner has left the island to spend New Year’s in Nassau and closed the laundromat. What a bummer! We brought the laundry back to the dinghy, hit two grocery stores (you never know what you will find and we also were running low on fruits and vegetables). The rest of the day was spent doing the laundry on the boat. Our little washing machine is not really meant for larger items like sheets and duvet covers, but four loads later the most important items were hanging out on the lifelines to dry. As our water maker installation hit a snag, water is currently a scarce commodity and the washing machine uses more water than we would like. There isn’t an abundance of places that we can access to refill our water tank and the price runs between 40-50 cents per gallon. Guess the rest of the laundry will have to wait until we find the next laundromat ;)<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p>
Was fÁ¼r ein Pech!
<\/p>
<\/p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Christmas in The Bahamas – Part 2<\/em><\/strong><\/p>
<\/p>
On 12\/26 we went to a Junkanoo Festival, which is said to have originated several centuries ago, when enslaved descendants of Africans on plantations in The Bahamas celebrated holidays granted around Christmas time with dance, music, and costumes.
