Besides Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda, there are many beautiful small islands that invite you to stop and explore the underwater world, beaches and caves. <\/p>
We saw a lot of huge catamarans, but were convinced that this was only a fraction of what we would see outside the hurricane season.<\/p>
<\/p>
Our sail from Culebra to Virgin Gorda, with a one-night stop at Norman Island, allowed us a few hours of beautiful close-reach sailing before resorting to motor sailing to make it into the anchorage before dark. <\/p>
<\/p>
Virgin Gorda's main attraction is The Baths National Park, which encompasses the beaches and rocky coastline at the southwestern tip of Virgin Gorda. The Baths is a collection of massive granite boulders up to 40 feet in diameter, with white sand beaches and secret rock pools.<\/p>
<\/p>
The cavernous environment is the result of molten rock seeping into the existing layers of volcanic rock. The molten rock did not reach the surface, so it slowly cooled and formed a hard crystalline granite layer. Further shrinkage and cracking formed blocks that were exposed as the softer volcanic rock above eroded away. Weathering rounded the corners of the boulders to what they are today. It was truly spectacular, and we were lucky to have the place almost to ourselves.<\/p>
<\/p>
Since it was almost July, we hadn't planned to spend much time in the BVIs, but considered it a stopover on our way south. So when after only five days the weather offered us a good window to move on, we seized the opportunity and left, perhaps to return another time.<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p>
<\/p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Quick Stop in British Virgin Islands<\/em><\/strong><\/p>
<\/p>
As soon as we entered the territorial waters of the British Virgin Islands, we immediately understood why this is a premier charter destination.
