Grand Cayman is a tourist magnet, especially for its crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches. An added bonus for tourists is the duty free shopping, so there are many upscale stores in Georgetown, the capital of Cayman Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from the water activities mentioned in our last post, we looked at some of the attractions and curiosities the island has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

George Town<\/strong> with its colonial fort, of which extremely little is left of the original structure. The Wall of History, a tiled mural highlighting the major events of the Cayman Islands’ 500 years of existence, and some other buildings of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Cayman ist ein Touristenmagnet, vor allem wegen seines kristallklaren Wassers und der sch\u00f6nen Str\u00e4nde. Ein zus\u00e4tzlicher Bonus f\u00fcr Touristen ist das zollfreie Einkaufen, weshalb es in Georgetown (Hauptstadt) viele gehobene Gesch\u00e4fte gibt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neben den in unserem letzten Beitrag erw\u00e4hnten Wasseraktivit\u00e4ten haben wir uns einige der Attraktionen und Kuriosit\u00e4ten der Insel angesehen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

George Town<\/strong> mit seinem kolonialen Fort, von dessen urspr\u00fcnglicher Struktur praktisch nichts mehr \u00fcbrig ist, die Wall of History, ein Wandmosaik, das die wichtigsten Ereignisse der 500-j\u00e4hrigen Geschichte der Kaimaninseln zeigt, und einige andere interessante Geb\u00e4ude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Camana Bay<\/strong>, a vibrant and modern community that offers the perfect balance of live, work and play, with many bars, restaurants and shops. We check out the Gelateria – twice. One of the most popular attractions is the 75-foot observation tower. We gaze at the beautiful floor to ceiling mosaic that pictures the marine life and coral reef in Grand Cayman as we climb the double helix staircase to the top of the 75ft observation tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We take a trip to “The Hell”<\/strong>, a small area of bizarre limestone rock formations said to be millions of years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Mastic Reserve<\/strong>, which is of international significance, represents some of the last remaining examples of the Caribbean’s lowland semi-deciduous dry forest. It is home to a wide variety of animals and plants unique to the Cayman Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Kirk Supermarket<\/strong>, a large supermarket with everything you would expect to find in a British or American grocery store. This has to be the nicest supermarket in the whole Caribbean and we are overwhelmed by what’s on offer, even if the prices are quite high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Kirk Supermarket, ein gro\u00dfer Supermarkt mit allem, was man in einem britischen oder amerikanischen Lebensmittelladen erwartet. Das ist der sch\u00f6nste Supermarkt, den wir in der ganzen Karibik gesehen haben und wir sind \u00fcberw\u00e4ltigt von dem Angebot, auch wenn die Preise recht hoch sind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    While we were still in Crystal Lake, we spent the long winter months looking forward to the day we’d be able to untie the lines by watching YouTube sailing videos, including “Sailing Fair Isle”. So it is quite exciting when we meet the British couple and their boat in Governor’s Creek. We stop by and have a nice chat about our experiences and plans for the future over a cup of tea. Not surprisingly, Judy and Steve are just as nice in person as they seemed to be in their videos. They are now on their way back to Europe, and we wish them a continued safe journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Als wir noch in Crystal Lake wohnten, verbrachten wir die langen Wintermonate damit, uns auf den Tag zu freuen, an dem wir die Leinen losmachen konnten, indem wir uns YouTube-Segelvideos ansahen, darunter \u201eSailing Fair Isle\u201c. Es ist also schon spanned, wenn wir in Governor’s Creek auf das britische Paar und ihr Boot treffen. Wir halten an und unterhalten uns bei einer Tasse Tee \u00fcber unsere Erfahrungen und Pl\u00e4ne f\u00fcr die Zukunft. Wir sind nicht \u00fcberrascht, dass Judy und Steve genau so nett sind, wie sie in ihren Videos zu sein scheinen. Sie sind nun auf dem Weg zur\u00fcck nach Europa, und wir w\u00fcnschen ihnen eine weiterhin sichere Reise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
