After Francis Drake died of dysentery at sea in 1596, he was buried in a lead coffin near Portobelo Bay, as commemorated by the present-day Isla Drake (&#8220;Drake Island&#8221;) at the mouth of the harbor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\">Der Legende nach nannte Christoph Kolumbus den Ort 1502 urspr\u00fcnglich \u201ePuerto Bello\u201c, was \u201eSch\u00f6ner Hafen\u201c bedeutet. Portobelo&#8217;s Spanish fortress ruins are of great historical interest and were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\">Obwohl englische Freibeuter und Piraten sie im Laufe ihrer Geschichte immer wieder zerst\u00f6rten, stehen mehrere dieser stimmungsvollen Kolonialfestungen noch immer zwischen den H\u00e4usern der D\u00f6rfer. The culture is a legacy of the African people who were enslaved and brought to the Americas during the Spanish colonial period and is celebrated through festivals, dance, music and art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\">Die kleine Stadt l\u00e4dt uns ein, durch ihre Stra\u00dfen zu schlendern und die beiden kleinen Museen in dem wundersch\u00f6n renovierten Zollgeb\u00e4ude zu besuchen, das historische Museum und das Kulturmuseum, in dem wir etwas \u00fcber die kongolesische Kultur erfahren. We found the round trip on a hiking app and decided that 2.3 miles should be doable. Little did we know that the trail would be steep and, due to the recent heavy rains, very muddy and slippery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\">Ein Besuch von Fuerte San Fernando f\u00fchrt uns in den dichten Wald. Wir fanden den Rundweg in einer Wander-App und beschlossen, dass 2,3 Meilen machbar sein sollten. Together with a bunch of other sailors and some locals we spend a really delightful last evening filled in Portobelo with good food and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\">Eines Abends spielten der Skipper eines gro\u00dfen Schoners und ein Teil der Besatzung im Casa Vela, einer kleinen Pizzeria, die von Francesco aus Italien betrieben wird.
